Skiing
Superbagnčres, to the south-west of the town, is
a ski resort. Historically it was connected to the town by a railway,
but today it is connected with a gondola. Each cabin holds up to four
people and takes about ten minutes to reach the summit, running in
the summer as well as the winter. The price of the cablecar is included
in the daily ski pass. Superbagnères has 24 tracks between
1442 and 2260m altitude. See the tourist office site for more info.

Mountain Biking
Every trail imaginable is found here in Luchon: never ending single track, rooty and rocky trails winding
up and down the mountains, wider trails you can gently roll down or attack quickly for that extra adrenalin buzz ...
or you may prefer gentler riding on the valley floor or along the tree lined river. A new bike park has been developed
especially for mountain bikers and a 1200m lift with an endless choice of down hill routes and cross country loops.
A Quick Release are an English company who operate from Luchon.

Golf
Luchon has its own 9-hole golf course. The golf course is perfectly maintained and in
the middle of this beautiful valley, it is surrounded by a fantastic
panorama. The highest peaks of the area, including Pic de Sauvegarde,
are visible from here with their coat of snow which sometimes lasts
until July. The course is open betwwen April 31st and October 31st. There are
many golf courses in the Midi-Pyrenees region to choose from and there is also a crazy-golf course in the the town. |

Walking
Luchon is a perfect base for walking holidays. The central Pyrenees is a mountain walkers paradise, There are
no fewer than 60 peaks over 3000 metres, most of which are accessible to a determined walker and scrambler. Alternatively, the
valleys and lakes make for superb days out. Compared to the Alps the Pyrenees have managed to avoid mass tourism and as a consequence
there are still quiet secluded valleys and rarely visited peaks too be found. Hideaway Walking is an English-run company
based in Luchon. |

Thermal Springs
Bagnčres-de-Luchon is celebrated for its thermal springs. The springs, which number forty eight, vary in
composition, but are chiefly impregnated with sulphate of sodium, and range in temperature from 62 to 150 Fahrenheit.
The discovery of numerous Roman remains attests the antiquity of the baths, which are identified with the Onesiorum Thermae of Strabo.
Within the town today a more modern entrance to the baths sits alongside the older buildings. The bathing experience consists
of repeated spells within a hot, sulphorous atmosphere in caves that run approximately 100 metres inside the Superbŕgneres mountain, and in a
cool swimming pool within the entrance building.
